Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) – The Study of Subjective Experience
What is NLP? As defined by co-developer, John Grinder, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is the science of personal excellence. Neuro-Linguistic Programming could even be perceived as an art since each NLP practitioner has their own unique style to what they do, and this can never be fully captured in words or techniques. NLP could also be perceived a science as it follows a specific methodology and process to discover the personal strategies employed by exceptional people to create specific outcomes. NLP provides a model of an individual’s subjective experience and a methodology for the beneficial characteristics, beliefs and behaviors to be modeled.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming – Epistemology and Modeling of Subjective Reality
NLP is a model of how individuals structure their unique experiences of life.. It is the study of subjective experience.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming is extremely useful when used to understand how an individual sorts, stores and accesses their internal representation (the mind/body storage for memories and experiences). By definition NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a name that encompasses the three most influential components involved in producing human experience: neurology, language and programming. The neurological system regulates how our bodies function; language determines how we interface and communicate with other people; and, our programming determines the kinds of models of the world we create.
Internal Representation, Subjective Experience, and Personal Excellence
Neuro-Linguistic Programming describes the fundamental dynamics between mind (neuro) and language (linguistic) and how their interplay affects our body and behavior (programming). NLP representational systems better define what is NLP because they provide a systematic approach to the way that information is retrieved through our 5 senses and then filtered through our subjective reality and subjective experience.
NLP is an epistemology (method for understanding processes) and it addresses the many various aspects of communication that every human shares in his or her subject experiences. Neuro-Linguistic Programming is specifically focused upon the impact that human language has upon the nervous system. NLP also focuses upon strategic modelling of excellence and creates a framework explaining the cognitive processes resulting in various behaviors.
More Than Just NLP Patterns – NLP is about Self Discovery, Identity Exploration, Personal Mission, Life Purpose…
For you, learning about NLP may be about self discovery, creating your identity, and pursuing your personal mission in life, because NLP provides a universal map for understanding and charting the human experience. Transpersonal is a qualitative expression which attempts to label that reaches beyond our individual ego boundaries, our communities and all global systems.
