Personal Development Coaching – 5 NLP Principles to Keep in Mind

by Michael Emery on September 10, 2008 · 0 comments

When I work with a client, I keep the following 5 principles in the back of my mind:

  1. Energy flows where attention goes
  2. Any meaning we assign to an experience is completely dependent upon its context
  3. What we are unconscious of has a greater influence upon our lives and what we can actually perceive in our conscious awareness
  4. Based upon the resources and the paradigm from which a person is operating they are making the best choices available to them
  5. A person cannot not-respond to their environment

As a Personal Development Coach, my job is to reframe a problem and hold a space for a client to be able to perceive a problem from various perspectives. Essentially, this creates flexibility and movement because most problems will not be solved using the same approach that created them.

Usually a client only needs to see a situation from one or two different perspectives to realize there are more options that exist and this process is what I call attentionshifting. As you may already know, I have an entire line of audio programs and a website dedicated to this www.attentionshifting.com.

I encourage you to consider the 5 Principles above and reflect upon your daily activities and routine experiences. If you notice that you’ve been making decisions by default or just reacting to your environment, let’s be in touch. If I can help, I will hold a space for you to create the changes that will get you on track for the life you want to live. We could do a telephone session, a video conference or if there is room available you can join my coaching gym. Whatever you decide, make sure its moving you toward what it is that you want… :)

Be Amazing!
